New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has issued an executive order that “requires all city-owned buildings – including schools, city offices, and gyms – to allow people to use the bathrooms and locker rooms of the gender with which they identify.” The order also specifies that individuals must be allowed into these single-sex facilities “without being required to show identification, medical documentation, or any other form of proof or verification of gender.” All city agencies have three months from the effective date to post the Single-Sex Facility Policy in “conspicuous locations” and update their planning documents to include training on transgender diversity and inclusion within a year of the effective date.

Two Tennessee lawmakers, Rep. Susan Lynn and Sen. Mike Bell, are sponsoring a bill that would “require that a student use student restroom and locker room facilities that are assigned for use by persons of the same sex as the sex indicated on the student’s original birth certificate.” While opponents of HB 2414 are concerned the pending legislation would violate the 14thAmendment’s Equal Protection Clause and Title IX, supporters claim the bill would protect individual school districts from potential lawsuits, and would also protect students’ right to privacy. Lynn says, “…it’s not fair to young ladies and young men to violate their privacy. It’s just not fair just because someone suddenly declares that they are something that biologically they’re not.” As of March 9, the bill has been referred to the Education Administration & Planning Subcommittee for discussion on March 15.

The Washington Human Rights Commission adopted rules that require businesses to “allow access to and use of a facility consistent with that individual’s gender identity.” That means if a man identifies as a woman, or vice versa, they are allowed to use the woman’s rest room, locker room or dressing room, by law.

Faye Seidler, formerly known as Brandon, is a Man who identifies as a Women. He was denied access to a women’s locker room while working at Sanford Health and filed a discrimination suit against the hospital in early December. He just dismissed the lawsuit because he reached some agreement with the hospital. Presumably, the hospital caved to his demands and bargained away the privacy rights of its female employees.
He has been featured in the New York Times.

Indiana Republican Senator Jim Tomes as proposed a bill that would make it a crime for transgender people to use public bathrooms and locker rooms that do not conform to their sex at birth. Other states, including Florida, have proposed similar measures in the past.
Gender Identity Watch opposes these bills because they harm gender nonconforming Women and Girls by subjecting them to arrest. You can watch Cathy Brennan discuss this here.

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties has disregarded the privacy and safety concerns of Women and Girls by allowing Men and Boys who “identify as female” to use locker rooms and other facilities intended for use by women and Girls. The YMCA adopted this abusive policy that hurts Women and Girls after men claimed it made them sad that other people recognize that they are Male.
Women and Girls don’t want to see your penis, whether or not you think it is a Woman’s penis.
Here’s hoping this ridiculous ideology dies soon.
