Dana Rivers, a man who identifies as a woman, was arrested in Oakland, CA following the murders of Patricia Wright and Charlotte Reed, a lesbian couple, and their 19-year-old son Toto “Benny” Diambu-Wright. When police arrived at the couple’s East Oakland home to investigate reported gunshots, they found the three victims had suffered fatal stabbing and gunshot wounds and the residence had been set on fire. Rivers, formerly known as David Warfield, was arrested while attempting to leave the scene on a motorcycle owned by Reed. The 61-year-old transgender activist, who held national attention in the ‘90s when he was fired from his teaching job after disclosing plans to identify and live as a woman, was found covered in blood and carrying ammunition and knives in his pockets. He has been charged with three counts of murder as well as arson and possession of metal knuckles, and is being held without bail.
