Months after the Supreme Court of India decided to recognise transgender individuals as a third gender, Lucknow University has included it in their examination form which will go online for the first time. The ‘TG’ category will be included in the admission form from next academic session.
The idea behind going online is to put a check on fake admissions in colleges affiliated to it. The manual filling of forms had loopholes where colleges tend to fill up more forms than the number of seats available. “With online process, any form exceeding the prescribed limit will be rejected,” said S K Shukla, LU’s controller of examination.
On including transgender as an option, Shukla said “we want to know whether any TG student is studying in Lucknow or not. In the absence of the third gender option, they may have entered either male or female. This will enable us to create a database too.”
