A Duchesne County, Utah resident is behind bars following a 14-month investigation into allegations of child sex abuse that date back to 1989. Susan Elizabeth Rye, 60, was charged in 8th District Court with three counts of aggravated sex abuse of a child, a second-degree felony. The charges stemmed from alleged abuse that took place two decades ago when Rye was known as Randall Donald Rye. Rye pleaded guilty Monday in 8th District Court to a single count of sex abuse of a child, which was reduced from a second-degree felony to a third-degree felony. Judge Samuel Chiara agreed to dismiss two other child sex abuse charges at the request of Duchesne County prosecutors in exchange for Rye’s plea.
Court records show Rye changed names in January 2009. When he was booked into jail under his legal name, Rye identified himself as male, Duchesne County Sheriff’s Lt. Jeremy Curry said.
We hope he serves his time in a men’s prison.
