Young v. Univ. of Tex. Med. Branch Corr. Health Care (USA)

After the prison refused to provide plaintiff, Allen Young, with feminizing hormones, he brought suit alleging an Eighth Amendment violation. The medical professionals in the prison concluded that Young suffered from gender dysphoria but that he did not satisfy the criteria to receive hormones. In particular, the plaintiff did not have a confirmed release date within 180 days and did not provide a physician’s letter stating that he had been taking hormones and planned to have sex-reassignment surgery.

Young was serving a prison sentence for  Aggravated Robbery of an Elderly person with Bodily Injury.
