Salem College, North Carolina (USA)
An undergraduate at all-female Salem College wants to remain on campus after transitioning to become a man. In response to the request of one person who no longer identifies as a Woman or Female, college officials at the all-female, Woman-focused institution are considering creating a policy on transgender students.
Michelle Melton, a college spokeswoman, declined to identify the student, citing federal educational privacy laws and Salem’s privacy policies.
Annie Webb, a 2005 Salem graduate, sent an email to fellow alumnae expressing the legitimate concern that if the transgender student is allowed to remain at Salem College, the trustees might convert the college into a coed institution.

“In response to the request of one person who no longer identifies as a Woman or Female, college officials at the all-female, Woman-focused institution are considering creating a policy on transgender students.”
I see nothing in the news reports that the alumnae who seems to be most public on this has said anything about no longer identifying as a woman or female? I’m just beginning to look into this and so far all the published stories seem to be so similar I would tend to guess they come from the same source, perhaps the Winston-Salem Journal article by John Hinton? Are there other sources we should be aware of?
“An undergraduate at all-female Salem College is asking to remain on campus after undergoing an operation in February to complete her transition to a man, and college officials are looking at whether to create a policy on transgender students.” – the first paragraph of the Source in the post.
